Initial Consultation

The first step to getting started with your estate planning is to schedule an initial consultation. This consultation is a no-obligation meeting during which we will discuss your particular needs and goals and map out an estate planning or probate strategy.

What to Bring

Estate planning clients should forward the following documents to the Firm by mail, fax, or email at least 3 days prior to their initial consultation:

You should also bring documentation relating to any businesses that you own, copies of any trusts under which you are a beneficiary, premarital agreements, divorce decrees, etc. If you are unable to bring these documents with you to the initial consultation, you may send them to the office at a later date.

How to Prepare

Before your initial consultation, you should take some time to think about what your priorities and goals are for your estate planning. Who do you wish to name as your beneficiaries in your Will? Do you wish to provide for a family member with special needs?

You should also think about how you wish to delegate responsibility through your Will and other planning documents. Who do you wish to name as guardian for your children or yourself if the need arises? Who should be the executor of your Will or serve as your representative under a Power of Attorney? In choosing who will serve in these roles, is important to choose an individual or entity who is trustworthy, organized, and responsible.

If you have any specific questions or concerns that you think may not have been adequately expressed in your completed Estate Planning Questionnaire, write out a list and bring it with you to your initial consultation.  You can also forward your questions to the office by fax or email at any time.
